I am a Sociologist, Labor Educator, and PhD Candidate

Hi, I'm Katy, I am a Labor Education Specialist at the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) and a sociology Ph.D. candidate and GSAS Teaching Scholar at Columbia University. There, I use quantitative and qualitative methods to study how economic stagnation, technology, and labor markets impact what work looks like and what workers are doing about it. 

I am a graduate research fellow at the Columbia Labor Lab and the Columbia Center for Political Economy, an Incite Institute Doctoral Dissertation Fellow, and part of the Worker Empowerment Research Network based between the Cornell ILR School and MIT Sloan. I also write about union political education and occupational segregation.

Previously I worked as a strategic researcher in the labor movement. I graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. with honors in Industrial and Labor Relations and a minor in Near Eastern Studies. I speak English, Arabic, and some Spanish.
