Hi, I'm Katy, I am a Labor Education Specialist at the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) and a fellow at the Columbia Labor Lab. I received my Ph.D. in Sociology at Columbia University, where I used quantitative and qualitative methods to study the political economy of tech change at work and how working people respond to their conditions.
At Columbia, I was a GSAS Teaching Scholar and a fellow at the Columbia Center for Political Economy, an Incite Institute Doctoral Dissertation Fellow, and part of the Worker Empowerment Research Network based between the Cornell ILR School and MIT Sloan. I also write about union political education and occupational segregation.
Previously I worked as a strategic researcher in the labor movement. I graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. with honors in Industrial and Labor Relations and a minor in Near Eastern Studies. I speak English, Arabic, and some Spanish.
